Vietnam introduced pictorial health warnings on tobacco packages in 2013. All tobacco packages are required to have a health warning cover 50% of the front and 50% of the back of the package. A set of 6 warnings are rotated on the packages; a new set of warnings will be released after a two-year period.
The warnings are required pursuant to the ‘Joint Circular Guiding the Labeling, Printing of Health Warnings on Tobacco Packages’ which was approved February 8, 2013. Under the Joint Circular regulations, the warnings were to appear on soft packs by August 8, 2013 and on hard packs by November 8, 2013.
