Thailand implemented their health warnings policy starting March, 2005. Currently, health warnings are required to cover 55% of the front and 55% of the back of all cigarette packages. Overall, 55% of the package space is appropriated to health warnings. In 2005, a set of 6 warnings were rotated on cigarette packages and in 2006, a new set of 9 warnings were put in place. In 2009, a new set of 10 health warning images were released.
In July 2011, Thailand announced new regulation on printing of information about health hazards and tobacco smoke constituents on cigarette packages. As of January 2012, a set of 10 different labels on the hazards and constituents will be introduced. The labeling will be on both package side panels, occupying 60% of each side.
Thailand also prohibits the terms "light" and "mild" from appearing on packages. In June 2011, Thailand released an amendment of previous regulations banning the use of a list of misleading terms. Regulations now include a ban of words or terms which convey attractiveness such as "cool", "ice", "frost", "crisp", "fresh", "mint", "mellow", "rich", "smooth", "natural", "special", "genuine", "luminous", "extra", "premium" and other terms with similar meaning. The regulations come into effect December, 2011.
